If you’re looking for a car that is sleek and sporty, and is just what you need for all of those trips around town and beyond look no further than the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport, a car that’s not only fun to drive but is that the perfect car for when you don’t have to haul the entire soccer team, but will still comfortably fit the family and all of their gear. Last week we got to test out the Hyundai Elantra Sport for ourselves and it did not disappoint.
Our first surprise that the model we tested had a stick-shift! Yes-you heard me right-a stick shift and I have to admit, although I was proficient at driving a stick back in the day, it had been a while but all my worries quickly disappeared once I saw for myself just how easy Hyundai had made it to whether you’re brand to to the art of the stick or hadn’t utilized one in well, more years than I can remember.
No need to guess when to switch from first gear to second gear because the designers of this car were brilliant in their planning when it came to making this easy to drive placing an indicator right on the dash that tells you when it’s time to shift. The turbo engine makes gives it all the power one could need when whether your out for a drive in the back county of beautiful Sonoma County or commuting back and forth to work
But wait-there’s more! The multi-link rear setup and steering keep it stuck to the road. While the 4-wheel disc brakes with larger front brakes will haul it all to a stop and even better, it comes with an anti-rollback feature which means you can drive up and down all the hills of Northern California or even the streets of San Francisco without a care or a worry because the vehicle is designed to keep you from rolling backwards. This one feature is worth the price of the car alone!
The Elantra Sport was designed with safety in mind whether your an experienced driver, or someone just starting out which really comes in handy during the Back-To-School shopping crush with everyone in a hurry which we sadly got to see in action and were so glad that we had it. The Sport comes with anAutomatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection as well as cutting-edge safety feature acts as your trusty co-pilot that’s always on duty, automatically stopping your forward progress when it senses a collision is imminent when your attention is elsewhere.
It’s also a must-have feature when sharing your Elantra with younger, less-experienced drivers. Add in the Blind Spot Detection
with Rear Cross-traffic Alert, Rearview Camera with Dynamic Guidelines and the Lane Departure Warning and Lane and you’re ready for even the busiest of Target and Costco parking lots or that late night ice cream run.
The Hyundai Elantra Sport has the look and feel of a sleek compact but on the inside, has the feel of any of a much larger car. The seats are so soft you can sink into them making it possible to drive for hours without every getting those tired and aching muscles that can sometimes come from cars.
I was shocked by just how much room there was in the back-even for someone like me who due to multiple knee replacements, knee flexibility is not one of my strong suits but I could very comfortable sit in the back behind the driver’s seat with it all the way back and still not have my knees touch the seat in front of me. I wish airplane seats were designed with this kind of space. The girls loved that there was storage right on the back of the seats as well as in the doors for all of their treasures making them easy to reach. Plus even better, the Elantra Sport has Heated Seats it’s the simple pleasures that mean the most.
It’s all of the little extras that make this the car that it is. The trunk space has plenty of room whether you’re carrying all the equipment for the team or you’re packing up and heading away for a week on vacation it more space than you’ll probably ever need but should you need a vehicle to put the band equipment in for the next gig, the back seat not only folds down but there’s a quick and easy lever right in the trunk which eliminates all the fuss and muss of trying to put the seat down. I personally love the the convenience of Proximity Key entry
with push button start especially when it’s late at night and your hands are full or you don’t want to dig to the bottom of your purse to find just where you put the keys.
The Elantra Sport comes equipped with dial-in supportive sport front seats and a substantial flat-bottom leather-wrapped sport steering wheel which means you can drive forever without your hands ever tiring. It easily passed the cup-holder test and no drinks were spilled at any time.
The carbon-fiber-look trim and the sport instrument gauge cluster add detail and style and it just doesn’t get any better on these beautiful summer days than a standard power sunroof which is perfect for daytime or nighttime star gazing.
When it comes to the latest in tech, the Hyundai Elantra Sport has it all and then some to keep up with the connected world we all live in today. The technology features they’ve engineered ensure you’ll always have everything you need everywhere you go including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which integrate all the functionality of your smartphone with your vehicle, so you can use your favorite apps, send messages, listen to your favorite music, use navigation and more.
And what’s really amazing are all the things you can do remotely using Hyundai Blue Link® on your smartphone and smartwatch, like start the car, turn on the air conditioning or heat before you get in and lock or unlock the doors.
The built-in navigation system makes it easy to find your favorite places, or the closet place to find ice cream late at night and the best part, when paired with your phone and Siri instructs you to head north-east-there’s an indicator right on the dashboard that not only tells you what direction you are heading, but the speed limits of the streets, roads , and highways, which is especially handy when you live in a town like we do where the speed limits change from block to block- and sometimes within the same block.
It takes all the guess work out of driving meaning your concentration is on the road where it should be,
The 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport is everything you want in a smaller car but with the power and feel of a larger one. But don’t just take my word for it-take one out for a spin and see for yourself because I know that like we were, once you get behind the wheel, you’re bound to be impressed. Exciting power, handling, appearance and interior upgrades make it the one to have-the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport is ready and waiting for you.
